to the colorful days of the early 20th century—when electric
trolleys known as “Red Cars” ran from L.A. to Orange County—with
a drive down the Balboa Peninsula, the historic Newport Beach
neighborhood. Among the Peninsula’s 1200 custom homes, you’ll
find original beach cottages alongside waterfront castles
in the $10 million range (nearly a third of the homes on the
Peninsula line the Bayfront, Oceanfront or Bay Island). Most
Bayfront properties also have docks, adding roughly $200,000
in value. A voluntary association for homeowners on the point
area offers a tennis court, private beach access and a launching
ramp for small boats.
