to the colorful days of the early 20th century—when
electric trolleys known as “Red Cars” ran from L.A.
to Orange County—with a drive down the Balboa Peninsula,
the historic Newport Beach neighborhood. Among the Peninsula’s
1200 custom homes, you’ll find original beach cottages
alongside waterfront castles in the $10 million range
(nearly a third of the homes on the Peninsula line the
Bayfront, Oceanfront or Bay Island). Most Bayfront properties
also have docks, adding roughly $200,000 in value. A
voluntary association for homeowners on the point area
offers a tennis court, private beach access and a launching
ramp for small boats.
