If
Newport Beach began on the Balboa Peninsula, the Peninsula
began with a Point. The Balboa Pavilion dates back to 1906,
when it was built as a Victorian bathhouse and a terminal
for the Pacific Electric “Red Car.” The area—including the
infamous “Wedge” surfing spot—has long been the ultimate destination
for beach fun. The 800 homes between Main Street and the tip
of the Peninsula include traditional, contemporary, Mediterranean
and Cape Cod styles; 270 of them line the waterfront.
